One of the many perks that come with a career as a Formula 1 driver is the impressive car collection that usually comes with it. Fernando Alonso apparently has a few cars gathering dust in his garage, because after previously getting rid of an extremely expensive Ferrari Enzo, he is now putting a brand new McLaren Elva up for sale.

Alonso auctions brand new McLaren Elva

Alonso is in possession of a special example of the McLaren Elva. Only 149 of this particular model were produced and number 114 of them, which was personalised specifically for the two-time world champion, will soon be auctioned off by international auction house Bonhams. What makes the car extra special is that there are only five kilometres on the odometer. So the car is as good as new.
In a post on Instagram, Alonso says he will personally hand over the keys of the McLaren to the winning bidder during the Grand Prix weekend in Abu Dhabi, which takes place between 24 and 26 November. The sports car is expected to fetch between $2.5 million and $3 million.
The car will be auctioned on 25 November as part of the 'On The Grid: The Abu Dhabi Auction' event organised by Bonhams. It is not the first luxury sports car to be disposed of by the Aston Martin driver: earlier this year, Alonso sold sentence Ferrari Enzo for no less than 5.4 million euros.
