The team are looking to continue their strong start to the season in Melbourne.
Alfa Romeo Sauber has announced that Jan Monchaux will join the team as the new Head of Aerodynamics with immediate effect.
Monchaux joins the team from Audi AG where he was head of Vehicle Engineering and Aerodynamics Audi Sport for five years. The French-German has also worked for Toyota Motorsport and Scuderia Ferrari in the past.
He will work under Jörg Zander, Sauber's technical director, who has said he cannot wait to begin with Monchaux joining the team.
“I’m very much looking forward to the arrival of Jan Monchaux as the new Head of Aerodynamics. It marks an important step of a wider project that aims at strengthening and implementing the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team in line with the targets and the results we want to achieve on tracks”.
Sauber finished with just a single car in Melbourne but despite that, the team made what was regarded as a strong start to 2018, with rookie Charles Leclerc finishing a respectable 13th with what many in the paddock believe to be the worst car on the grid this season.
Teammate Marcus Ericsson was forced to retire with a hydraulic issue early on in the race, however, both drivers qualified above expectations were on similar pace to those around them, alleviating earlier fears that the team would be in a class of one at the back of the field.
