Formula 1 boss
Stefano Domenicali does not foresee any women in
Formula 1 for the next five years. The Italian said this in a press briefing ahead of the
Belgian Grand Prix,
F1-insider quotes.
Domenicali is more likely to see
"a meteorite hit the earth than a woman in Formula 1 within five years". As the call for women to enter the premier class continues to grow, Domenicali explains what makes this process difficult:
"We are trying to understand how to create an environment where women at the right age can get into the right car. That is the key factor."For women, there is the W-series, but according to Domenicali, women are relatively too old to enter this series. They should be the same age as the men when they start in
Formula 2 or
Formula 3. Starting earlier would therefore be an important point for women to have a chance of entering
Formula 1.
Wolff last woman
The last woman in a
Formula 1 car was
Susie Wolff, a former British driver and CEO of Mercedes in
Formula E. The wife of Mercedes team boss in Formula 1
Toto Wolff drove a free practice session for
Williams in 2015.
