Red Bull Racing's rear wing problems not structural

Red Bull Racing have had problems with the rear wing twice in a row, but there is no structural problem. According to an analysis by Formel1.de, it was in fact two different problems.

Bumps in America

Prior to qualifying for the Grands Prix of America and Mexico the rear wings of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez needed a lot of work. Adrian Newey already announced that these are two different problems and that there is no need to worry, but Formel1.de looked further into the cause of the problems.

In Austin, cracks appeared in the rear wing itself. The big plate was glued in the middle and over that duct tape was put. According to the German media, these cracks were caused by the bumpy Circuit of the Americas. Also Alpine had problems with this and even had to bring Fernando Alonso inside during the race.

New package in Mexico

In Mexico, it was another problem with the rear wing. This time there were problems with the end of the wing plate and the side of the wing. However, this was part of the high downforce package that Red Bull has used many times this year. However, this package was never taken to Mexico.

Where this package survived the streets of Monaco, it had more trouble with the speed on the straights in Mexico. The thin air also creates different conditions, which Red Bull had to address with some adjustments. It's unlikely either of these problems will reoccur in Brazil.
