Domenicali thinks about reversed grids to make sprint races more spectacular

In 2021, Formula 1 will experiment with sprint races for the first time. After two of the three sprint races have been held in the season, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is thinking about increasing the spectacle and suggests the possibility of starting a special championship for the sprint races.

Besides the idea of a special championship for the sprint races, more ideas will be discussed on 15 December when the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) meets. The idea of using Friday's qualifying for Sunday's grid is also being considered, according to FormulaPassion.it report.

The sprint race on Saturday functions as the qualification for Sunday's Grand Prix in 2021. Drivers cover 100km to determine who will start from pole position on Sunday. But with the new ideas, there is a good chance that this will change.

When the sprint race is no longer used as a qualifying format, more points can be awarded for it. The idea of reversed grids is also being mooted again. This would mean that the first eight to ten places would be reversed, based on the WC standings or Friday's times.

So far, two sprint races have been held. The first was held at the Silverstone circuit and the second at Monza. The third and final sprint race will be held at Interlagos.
