Red Bull surprised by Mercedes' speed: 'Found a good pace'

Sergio Perez was surprised by the speed of Mercedes in the past few races. Ahead of the United States Grand Prix, however, Perez is confident about the upcoming weekend.

Since the British Grand Prix, Mercedes has already made a nice step forward, but in the last few races, the gap to Red Bull Racing has really been closed. With the new engine, Mercedes seemed to have a bit more power and the team was hard to beat. Perez tells that his team was shocked by this.

Red Bull was surprised

''We should be more competitive here than in Turkey because Mercedes dominated the weekend there. I hope the characteristics of this circuit with the high-speed corners will help us to get closer and have a good race. In the past few races they have been able to find a good pace, especially on the straights and that was definitely a surprise,'' Perez said according to Speedweek.com.

As well as Perez having to fight for his own place, his team also expect him to play an important role in Max Verstappen's title fight. ''I don't see it as fighting for another driver, but for my team and Max is part of that. Everyone in the team wants him to win because we all benefit from that. We work together to be successful together,'' concludes the Mexican.
