The first one-two of this season is in the name of McLaren. Daniel Ricciardo drove to victory without too many problems, followed by teammate Lando Norris. The Australian also set the fastest lap of the race, giving the team the maximum result on Sunday.

The week before, at the Zandvoort circuit, things went wrong for McLaren. The team secured just one point there. "We have to be careful now, because a week ago at Zandvoort we were totally destroyed. All the more reason for us to work hard to avoid ending up in this situation again in the future", team boss Andreas Seidl warns on Motorsport-Total.com.

The race at Monza was the complete opposite. "I am impressed by how the team and Daniel performed under pressure. But we also had a competitive car and knew that a lot of points were possible. Even without the crash [between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton] we controlled the race well. We controlled the gaps behind Daniel and Lando. The pit stops, tyre management and strategy were perfect."

McLaren wants to return to the top

"What I respect so much about Mercedes and Red Bull is that they have a car that allows them to fight for victory every weekend. A one-two is a sensational result, but again, seven days before that we were totally destroyed at Zandvoort. We're still behind," Seidl continued.

"Days like today are the best motivation to continue just as diligently. I'm very happy that Daniel has made progress since the summer break and Lando is in incredible form anyway. That's exactly the drive we need if we want to win the battle against Ferrari and get back to the top of Formula One." With the double podium finish, McLaren is back at P3 in the constructors' championship.
