Almost out of nowhere, Ferrari were able to fight for victory with Mercedes at the British Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc led for 49 laps at Silverstone but was overtaken by Lewis Hamilton with three laps to go.

Just short of victory for Leclerc

Team boss Mattia Binotto is very pleased with Leclerc's second-place finish for the team despite losing the victory. "I think obviously it was disappointing [to lose out on the victory to Lewis Hamilton] two laps from the end but I think we should be pleased as well: pleased with the race performance, for the entire weekend performance," said the Italian at F1.com.

It wasn't long back when Ferrari last had a dramatic Grand Prix. Indeed, in France, the team failed to score a single point and mostly fought with itself: "We somehow understood the weaknesses and now this is three races in a row where we have had good pace in the race, which was a weakness at the start of the season."

Simulator work has helped with problems

Binotto reveals that Ferrari has been doing a lot of simulator work to improve on-track performance. "Trying to get a better understanding of what’s wrong, how to address it – and I think this is what I’m happy and pleased, to see the progress."
