After an eventful weekend in Italy Valtteri Bottas is focusing on the future. Despite a somewhat disappointing start to the season in which he was once again beaten by Hamilton, he is not yet putting the title out of his mind.

No conversation with Russell

During the race in Imola Bottas crashed hard with Williams driver George Russell, after which there was a heated exchange of words between the two. Since then Bottas has had no contact with Russell.

"I did read his post on social media. We haven't spoken to each other, but for me, it's done, and I'm sure it's done for him too. George has apologised and it's time to put it behind us," quoted Formule1.nl The Finn during the press conference in Portugal.

However, Bottas did speak with Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff. "Just a short conversation. Other than that, we ended that race as one to forget quickly and try to look at the positive."

Second fiddle

Although the season is only two races in, Bottas seems to have only the role of second fiddle to Mercedes again this year. However, he himself does not want to put the title out of his mind just yet and therefore does not see himself as second behind Hamilton.

"The year is still long. I am behind now and would like to reduce the gap," Bottas is hopeful. "My goal for this year is also clear," he is referring to the title. However, the Finn's retirement in Imola means he is already 28 points behind his teammate.
