Nikita Mazepin remained largely out of the picture during the Grand Prix. A spin in the second corner of the opening lap ended his race before it could really get started. The Russian made the shortest Formula 1 debut since 2002 when debutants Felipe Massa and Allan McNish knocked each other out at the first corner.

Mick Schumacher, Mazepin's teammate at Haas, did manage to finish his debut race. He finished sixteenth, and unlike his Russian colleague, managed to save his Haas after a spin early in the race. Bringing the Uralkali-sponsored car across the finish line, Schumacher gave the Formula 1 viewing public a first taste of his racing skills.
