Red Bull Racing has given Alexander Albon a completely new chassis for the rest of this race weekend in Bahrain. During the second free practice yesterday, the Thai went off and sustained a lot of damage to his car.

Albon went far too wide in turn 15 and lost control of his car on Pirelli's new tyres. The RB16 flew into the wall and there was a lot of damage. Team boss Christian Horner said yesterday that it was a considerable amount of money, but at first the damage seemed to be not too bad. The mechanics have installed a completely new chassis on Albon's car.

New survival cell

Last night the team examined the damage and decided to replace the 'survival cell', part of the monocoque, according to Formula1.com. As a result, Albon will be driving a new chassis for the rest of the weekend.

The Thai knows that this does not increase his chances to stay with the team, he has to perform to the maximum every weekend from now on to keep a chance of a seat at Red Bull next year.
