Weather forces FP2 cancellation at the Eifel GP!

There was no running in FP2 at the Nurburgring for the Eifel Grand Prix as weather prevented any action. The mist and fog above the track prevented the medical helicopter from flying, meaning the light at the end of the pit late remained red.

This comes after there was also no running in FP1 due to the fog, meaning the Eifel GP weekend now becomes a two-day event. The cancellation of FP1 meant that neither Mick Schumacher or Callum Ilott could make their F1 weekend debuts for Alfa Romeo and Haas respectively.

The lack of running is frustrating for fans and drivers alike, but ultimately safety has to come first.

Formula 1 hasn't raced at the Nurburgring since 2013, but due to the cancellation of several races due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was reinstated for 2020.

However, the frustration today could be a blessing in disguise. There have been lots of talk about F1 doing too many practice sessions, so assuming the weather is ok for the rest of the weekend, we will see just one practice session before qualifying, potentially making for an interesting weekend!

Let's hope for better weather tomorrow, when you can join us live on GPBlog.com for updates and coversation!
