Ferrari working on a new engine: ''We're counting on that for 2021''

Ferrari will have to make every effort to be at the forefront of the midfield by 2021. Mattia Binotto still firmly believes in Ferrari's current team.

At the end of 2018 something had to be done at Ferrari, according to Sergio Marchionne. Maurizio Arrivabene had to leave, Charles Leclerc was brought in and technical man, Mattia Binotto, took the reins as team boss. Two years later, however, the team have dropped out of the the points and did not score a single point in Belgium.

''In the last five years they have built a car close to Mercedes, which allowed us to fight for a world title,'' Binotto said. ''Next season the car will be an evolution of this year, but there are opportunities. The engine for 2021 is brand new and has already been tested many times at the factory, we're counting on that.

Binotto's position also seems to be under pressure, but according to the team boss himself, that is not the case. ''To be honest, I haven't bothered about that for a moment, because I have the full support of the management. I could certainly have done better on some points, because the technical reorganisation could have been done earlier I believe, however, that my 25 years of experience and knowledge of the company are essential for me to succeed in my position," concluded Binotto to Corriere della Sera.
