Seidl: "We're fighting with a Red Bull car and that's our goal"

McLaren experienced a good season start in 2020. With Lando Norris the team already managed to get a podium place and with a fourth place they are very good in the constructors championship. However, they are only one point behind Racing Point, making third place within reach. Andreas Seidl has already put his eyes on third place.

"As long as there's a chance, we're certainly not going to give up", Seidl says to Autosport. Racing Point is a lot faster on the track, Seidl sees that too. "I think when you look at pure performance, that we are in a fight with Ferrari and Renault. You have to be realistic. If Racing Point can get the potential out of their car, it's going to be very difficult to beat them."

Fighting with Red Bull

However, Seidl sees that they have the right people to fight against Racing Point. "With the drivers we have, there's always a chance we can fight with Racing Point and a Red Bull Racing car and that's our goal". With that one Red Bull car, Seidl is referring to Alexander Albon, who is still often in midfield.

So Seidl keeps hoping for a third place in the championship, despite the inferior car. "In the race we clearly have the fourth car, if you look at speed. However, we have also seen that we have gained a lot of points, compared to other teams, purely due to a good execution of the race on Sunday. That gives a lot of confidence, after six races we are in fourth place, in front of Ferrari. That's a huge motivation boost", Seidl said.
