Irvine doesn't understand anything about Ferrari: ''I paid Vettel to let him go''

It was only two points or Eddie Irvine and not Michael Schumacher brought the first world title back to Maranello in years. However, Irvine knew his place next to the leader of Ferrari and expected the same situation for Carlos Sainz.
"I wasn't the one who had to win. I never had a problem with Michael. If I had to let him pass, I would. I wasn't the one who had to win, the arrangements were very clear. I would only have got in his way,'' Irvine says to Il Foglio Quitidiano.

Sainz as second violin

Carlos Sainz will make the transition to Ferrari in 2021 and although everyone at Ferrari says that Charles Leclerc and Sainz will get equal opportunities, that's still the question. It is not for nothing that Leclerc has signed a multi-year contract and the Monegask, together with Max Verstappen, is known as the best of their generation.
''For the Spaniard it will be a difficult task. I think he can't compete with Leclerc, but his results on the track will show that. I do think he made the right choice to go to Ferrari. Ferrari should have let Vettel go already. I even paid him to let him go'', concludes Irvine.
