The immediate cause for the cancellation of the Australian Grand Prix in March was an infected mechanic within the McLaren team. The teams will from now on operate in social bubbles in order to minimize the spread in case of a positive case. It is still important that the teams are 'clean'. This is the case with Alfa Romeo.

"None of us got infected", team boss Frederic Vasseur starts his conversation with Auto Motor und Sport. "Everybody's healthy, that's the most important thing. It has mainly had a psychological impact on the team. We were ready to race in Melbourne and then suddenly you have to take a three month break".

Vasseur indicates that this was a new experience for most people in his team. None of the regulars had to do without racing for such a long time in their time with the team. For Vasseur and his staff, the season can't start fast enough. "I have to get back to the paddock. We need races again, this break was far too long for me."

In that shortened season he hopes to do better than last year. Raikkonen in particular was very stable in the first half of the season and an outperformance in Brazil (fourth and fifth) yielded a lot of points. Vasseur now wants the team to make more use of special opportunities, such as the German Grand Prix.
