Chandhok: ''There's no excuse for Ferrari if they don't know how to win''

The battle for the world title in Formula 1 could almost erupt again with the first race in Austria at the beginning of July, but who will finish at the top in the first race is still hard to predict after the wintertests in Barcelona.

Backlog in front of Ferrari

According to the data from the winter tests, Mercedes is still the team to be beaten, with Red Bull Racing as a close second. The main surprise was Ferrari, which finished second in 2019, but now seem far behind Red Bull and Mercedes. Is Ferrari still holding something back or are there really problems?

''When you talk to people at Ferrari and Red Bull, it's clear that there's really a big gap between the two teams. Testing doesn't show everything, but those dates really speak for themselves. Ferrari is behind and they have to deal with that, because for such a large team there is no excuse not to win," says Karun Chandhok in a video of Sky Sports.

Binotto on defense

Mattia Binotto has just been at the helm as team boss for a year, but immediately comes under pressure because of this. What went wrong when designing this car and what does the future look like? Now that the new aerodynamic rules have been postponed for a year, Ferrari has to do it for two years with a car that doesn't seem good enough yet.

''When Jean Todt says that Vettel has never had a good car from Ferrari, it is clear that from the outside there is still much criticism of the leadership at Ferrari. Binotto screens with the long term project, but in Formula 1 you don't get time. At the rule changes they have to be there, that's what Binotto is trying to get, but until then they have to perform,'' Craig Slater concludes.
