Hockenheimring: 'We can't keep room for Formula 1 forever'

On paper there are eight races fixed for the Formula 1 season of 2020, but the calendar still needs to be filled up to at least fifteen races. However, the question is where this could be done. One of the candidates seemed to be the Hockenheimring.

It continues to speculate

The Hockenheimring has been the scene of the German Grand Prix in recent years, but disappeared from the original calendar of 2020. However, now that Formula 1 needs races in Europe again to limit travelling and still achieve a decent number of races, the name of the Hockenheimring came up again.
''Whether after the eight races officially published, the season will be continued in Europe is currently only speculation – likewise, whether such a race would then take place here at the Hockenheimring. Of course we’d be happy to check the feasibility of such an event if we receive an enquiry, but it’s clear that the chances of this happening don’t necessarily increase as time goes on'', let the circuit know against GPblog.com.

No time to wait

In any case, it is clear that there is no request yet from Formula 1 at the Hockenheimring, where it was previously suggested that there was already a request to organize two races. The chance of a return seems less real than previously expected, because with the passage of time the Hockenheimring starts planning other races as well.
''After all, our priority is to achieve the highest possible economic utilisation of our race track and, to this extent, we cannot keep any unconfirmed dates for Formula 1 available for several weeks'', circuit directors Jorn Teske and Jochen Nerpel made a joint statement to GPblog.com. So for European races at the moment Mugello and Imola seem to have a better chance of a race than a return to Hockenheim.
