Max Verstappen's final chance of becoming the youngest ever World Champion will be in 2020 and the Dutchman is well aware of the threat the other team's pose but is adamant things are moving in the right direction.

Verstappen has been a stand out performer in 2019 with two race wins in Austria and Germany as well as his first-ever pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix. His good form has prompted many to believe he is the best driver on the grid despite being a considerable way off Lewis Hamilton in the Drivers' Championship.

Verstappen's last shot at becoming the youngest World Champion will be the 2020 season but the Dutchman is aware of the challenge he faces if he wants to achieve the feat.

"It looks absolutely positive towards next year, but those others are not standing still either, are we? We really have to work hard to close the gap," Verstappen told De Telegraaf.

"Until now I am satisfied with the progress we have made."

Despite looking towards next season, which may be his best shot at a title in the current climate, the Dutchman's immediate focus will turn to the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend.
