It has been a very challenging season so far for Williams with the constructor scoring only a single point thanks to Robert Kubica's P10 in Germany. Adam Carter one of their engineers has given a very honest insight into the decisions they have had to make regarding development.
Williams have endured a nightmare season, all starting at pre-season testing when their car was late to arrive in Spain. They have been well off the pace at most races this season but they have had some relief at the German and Hungarian Grand Prix with Kubica scoring at the Hockenheimring and George Russell almost reaching Q2 a week later.
The constructor brought updates to Germany and have started to reap the rewards. Carter admits that Williams faced a tough decision as to how they move forward.
"The biggest challenge is to choose whether to continue with the development of the machine you have made or to stop and reconfigure everything from the beginning," the engineer told Motorsport.com.
"This is an ever-changing industry and you are in a competition. If you consciously decide to stop and start stronger than before, you must make this choice for future opportunities. For me this is the most difficult thing."
