Daniel Ricciardo has revealed the Renault team struggled from lap one of the Austrian Grand Prix as the Australian finished the race at the Red Bull Ring in 12th.

Ricciardo qualified in P12 and finished in the same position as he struggled to make as much of an impact as he has done in recent weeks. His teammate Nico Hulkenberg had a similarly difficult weekend as he made up to places from 15th to finish one place behind his teammate in P13.

Despite feeling as if they improved as the race went on, Ricciardo admitted the team weren't right from the start of the race.

“It was a tough weekend, for sure. From lap one today it was tricky and I struggled for grip. We improved as the race progressed, managed a decent stint on the Softs at the end, but it was probably a bit too late," said Ricciardo.

"We need to figure out why this weekend was so tough. There’s stuff we can improve, but I won’t put it all down to the car. I’ll look at myself and see what I can do better as well."

"Something wasn’t right this weekend and Nico shared the same feelings too. We’ll do our best to figure it out and get on top of it.”
