McLaren rookie Lando Norris had "proper fun" at the start of yesterday's Canadian Grand Prix fighting Max Verstappen, he said, as he battled his sim racing teammate for several laps before the Dutchman got through.
Norris started right ahead of Verstappen in P8, and got away well to keep the Red Bull Racing star at bay. After a few laps, Norris misjudged the hairpin and Verstappen snuck through, but Norris' McLaren showed excellent straight-line speed as he took the five-time Grand Prix winner right back in the straight leading to the final chicane.
Eventually, Verstappen got through on DRS and Norris retired shortly after with a suspension failure, but he still had fun battling his Team Redline teammate.
“It was fun,” the 19-year-old was quoted by RaceFans.net.
“I managed to hold him off for a few laps even though he was considerably quicker. He got me on the first lap, I managed to get him back.

“Max is obviously a tough guy to keep behind so I did what I could, it was some close racing and some fun. I haven’t had a lot of racing this season, wheel-to-wheel and having proper fun, so this was the first bit of it. It was nice it just didn’t last very long.”
Verstappen ended up finishing fifth, while Norris called it a day after a handful of laps with a mystery suspension failure.
