Alonso not thinking about F1 comeback "unless Sainz wins races this season"

Two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso tested for McLaren in Bahrain earlier this week, but the Spaniard jokingly said he won't think about a comeback to the sport unless Carlos Sainz starts winning races this season for the team.

Alonso said goodbye to F1 at the end of last season, although he did stress he could potentially come back in the future to the sport.

The 37-year-old's last years in the sport were at McLaren but he never had a car to compete with, leaving him more frustrated by the day.

Currently, Alonso competes in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) for Toyota, and that's all he's thinking about for now.

"I'm currently focused on [the 6 Hours of] Spa, Indianapolis [500] and [the 24 Hours of] Le Mans," Alonso told Speedweek and Spanish media.

"Next year I don't want to do as many things as this year because it takes away from the ability to be successful."

Finally, Alonso spoke on a potential comeback in F1, as he was testing for McLaren's team in Bahrain during this week.

"Maybe I'll change my mind if Carlos [Sainz] wins two or three races by the end of the season," Alonso concluded with a smile.
