Mark Webber believes Hamilton and Verstappen are 'the best in the world'

Former Red Bull driver Mark Webber has predicted which drivers he believes to be quick during the upcoming season. The Australian believes that Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are the two quickest drivers on the grid. When asked about fellow countryman Daniel Ricciardo, Webber thinks that he will struggle for speed in the Renault.

It is always hard to judge the competitiveness of teams during winter testing. However, there is a general belief that Mercedes are not the top team any more. Webbers agrees with this and said, “Mercedes might be slightly on the back foot, though from an incredibly high benchmark,” when speaking to the Australian Financial Review.

When asked about which drivers will be quick in 2019 that Australian said, “There’s the Max Verstappen factor too,”

“In those conditions, Max and Lewis Hamilton are the best in the world. Max is going to take a lot of risks, put his nose in everywhere.”

When asked if Ricciardo would win a race this season Webber said, “He’d need some stars lining up, but it can happen. He’s not ballistically quick over one lap but when it comes to racing — if anyone can pull something out of that Renault on Sunday it’s him,”

“It’s going to be a long campaign to get them competitive but he’ll lift that team, there’s no doubt about it,”
