It's time for qualifying at the Canadian Grand Prix. In Monaco, Charles Leclerc broke Max Verstappen's streak for qualifying on pole for every single Grand Prix so far in 2024. With the rain already causing problems for drivers during free practice, it could make for an interesting qualifying session as the bad weather is set to continue. Esteban Ocon will also face a five-place grid penalty for his incident in Monaco. You can follow all the action with the live blog below as the drivers set their places on the grid for Sunday's Grand Prix.

This weekend marks the ninth round of the 2024 World Championship. At the moment, Red Bull racing sit at the top of the Constructors table, but the title fight is beginning to pick up the pace, with Ferrari being just 24 points behind the Austrian team. Whilst it looked set in Bahrain to be another flying season for Red Bull, the competition has caught up with them in recent weeks, and has seen four different race winners across the past eight races. It seems a battle is likely to be on the cards for this season. This weekend in Montreal will provide another insight into this.

What's happened so far?

Friday's sessions left uncertainty over teams' performance for the weekend due to the disruptive wet conditions. The first session was affected by rain and hail, meaning drivers only had around 40 minutes on the track for testing. A red flag was also called during the session after Zhou Guanyu hit his car into the wall at Turn 5. As the track began to dry, drivers could make the switch from wet tyres to inters and softs. In the end, Lando Norris topped the table, followed by Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc. In the second session, the rain returned and it left most unable to beat the times they had set early on. Max Verstappen faced issues with his new powerunit, and Charles Leclerc and Ferrari were placed under investigation for using the wrong set of tyres. By the end, Fernando Alonso topped the wet session this time, followed by George Russell and Lance Stroll
