Newey leaves Red Bull: Everything we know

Early in the morning, it became official: Adrian Newey will leave Red Bull Racing. The Briton will remain on the team until the end of the first quarter of 2025. Until he stays at Red Bull, he can still appear on the track to complete specific tasks and he gets to finish his RB17 hypercar.

Newey also responded to his exit"I feel now is an opportune moment to hand that baton over to others and to seek new challenges for myself. In the interim, the final stages of development of RB17 are upon us, so for the remainder of my time with the Team my focus will lie there."

It was first rumours that Red Bull would not allow Newey to work for a different team until 2027, but it turned out that once leaves the team, he will be allowed to join a rival. GPblog listed which three teams could be the possible destinations in Formula 1 for the designer.

How did Jos Verstappen and Wolff react?

Jos Verstappen voiced his concerns to De Telegraaf after the departure of Newey"I was afraid of that earlier this year. For internal peace, key people must stay on board. That is not the case now," the former F1 driver commented. Max Verstappen has not spoken about the matter after the statement was released stance was always clear: he wants the team to stay together.

Red Bull's team principal, Christian Horner, posted about Newey on his Instagram and referred to him as a friend, but many F1 fans responded to him in a negative way.

Talking Reuters, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff remained neutral. "Adrian Newey is an iconic engineer in Formula One with a great track record and again, also there are so many people talking about what he eventually might do and whether he leaves Red Bull or not. I’m just looking at it like a fan and watching that space," he commented.
