The Indian Grand Prix was on the calendar between 2011 and 2013. Then, it was taken off again due to various issues. The local government decided to increase taxes around the event, which caused many problems. F1 and the FOM would like to see the return of the Grand Prix.
This is in line with the FOM's aim to make F1's presence as global as possible, reports Motorsportweek. The country's economic status and population numbers are very interesting to the organisers. Yet several hurdles still stand in the way of the return.
Racing Promotions Private Limited (RPPL) has done its best to revive motorsport in India. For instance, it has set up a Formula 4 series, and a Formula Regional is also in its sights. Formula E should have actually raced in India too, as it did in 2023. However, India could not meet financial commitments.

Futures for India

There are also hurdles for F1 and the FOM. Indeed, the calendar is just about full. The limit is now 25, and there are already 24 races on the calendar in 2024. The FOM would like to see the limit grow beyond 25. Only the FIA is vehemently against it. In India, they would also like to see the race happen. They are now looking into organising an event for in 2028.
