Pierre Waché on RB20: 'We have to be very careful'

It sounds almost too crazy to believe, but the RB19 had its weaknesses. Technical director Pierre Waché also admitted this to Motorsport.com. Reducing the problems the car has in slow corners and because of kerbstones, for example, should not come at the expense of the car's strongest points, according to Waché.

The RB19 was supreme. The car won 21 of the 22 races 2023 had to offer us, only in Singapore did the car fail to win the race. And it was precisely in Singapore that the car's flaws came to the fore. The aforementioned slow corners and kerbstones, as well as bumps on the track, had not been kind to the RB19. Cleaning up these flaws is important, but should not come at the expense of the car's strengths, according to Pierre Waché, Red Bull Racing technical director.

Finding balance for Red Bull

"The team did still find some weaknesses in the RB19, although our perspective may be different from Max's. Max is obviously a driver and feels things differently, although he has summed it up pretty well as yet," Waché said. He continued: "In 90-degree corners, we didn't prove to be the best team last year, as was evident during qualifying in Baku and Singapore. Those are things we ideally need to improve." Ultimately, for the Frenchman, it's about finding balance: "You can increase the potential of one part, but often that one adjustment also has a big impact on other parts of the car. So we have to be very careful, especially careful not to destroy what we had in terms of strengths with the RB19."
