Five-time champion Lewis Hamilton has cemented his place in F1 history after winning that fifth title in Mexico last weekend, but the Brit is not thinking about being given a title by his country - knighthood.

After struggling at the start of the season, Hamilton showed devastating consistency and ability to catch up, overtake and leave Sebastian Vettel behind in the title race this season. Despite reports suggesting that Ferrari have the best package this season, Hamilton has been untouchable for the second half of the season, which is why is the worthy winner of the 2018 title.

When asked about a potential knighthood to honour his many achievements, the man from Stevenage admitted that he never thought about that, even though he is very proud of his heritage.

"Honestly that is really not something that is on my mind, and not something I’m even contemplating," the Brit was quoted by F1i.

"I’ve been very fortunate and very grateful to have met the Queen on a couple of occasions, which I’m just grateful for. I’m very proud.

"I don’t know if you notice that sometimes, when I’m on the podium I look back and see the Union Jack and I’m very proud to raise that flag, and which I’ll continue to do so. And hopefully try to make more and more Brits proud."

In terms of world championships, there's only one more person for Hamilton to catch up to: Michael Schumacher. Der Rekordmeister currently holds the record with seven world championships. Is Hamilton thinking about overtaking Schumi?

"At the moment, a German has the most titles but I think I’m quite grateful and quite proud of the ones that we have as Brits and yeah, going to continue to try to raise the game."
