Raikkonen: It's all boring

Raikkonen: "It's all boring"

We’ve known for a long time that Kimi Raikkonen is not the biggest fan of media, but now he has explained that he hopes his son does not follow in his footsteps and take up karting.

Raikkonen has been entertaining us in Formula One since 2001 and will be returning to his first team, Sauber, for two years following the expiration of his contract at Ferrari.

The Finn will be replaced by Ferrari Academy driver Charles Leclerc, who has impressed a lot of people during his debut year with Sauber.

Raikkonen will be joined at Leclerc’s current team by another Ferrari Academy graduate, Antonio Giovinazzi, and although Raikkonen does not know them too well, he said that he wishes them the best: “I don’t know them very but they are young good guys. I hope that Charles will do well.”

Kimi’s young son, Robin Raikkonen is obviously not old enough yet, but the 39 year-old has revealed he would rather not spend more time than he already has at race circuits, and labelled press conferences as “boring!”

“I just want to race. I’ve been here for 20 years and it’s all boring: the usual travelling, usual faces, usual questions, usual press conferences.

“I am afraid to think that when I retire if my son is karting, I will find myself accompanying him to the race circuits again.”

Let’s hope that the Iceman doesn’t get too bored at Sauber or we could see an early retirement!
