Manager of Gasly puts things on edge at Alpine: 'Bit of frustration'

Pierre Gasly swapped AlphaTauri for an adventure with factory Alpine team last winter. In the first half of the season, the Frenchman collected 22 points, which is not to his satisfaction. The current car is not competitive, so Gasly's manager is stepping up the pressure via the media.

According to manager Guillaume Le Goff, Gasly quickly got used to the car, but there was some disappointment with the speed of the A523. "It was a bit out of tune with what we expected, so there is a bit of frustration on that front. We didn't leave AlphaTauri to fight for a point or two. That is no secret."

Gasly gets on well with everyone

Le Goff goes on to tell RMC about the relationship between Gasly and Esteban Ocon. The two teammates did not get along early on and had several clashes. When it was announced that Gasly would move towards Alpine in 2023, there were many question marks over whether that would go well. "Everything went fine, there have been no problems for a long time. They even laughed about it together," said Le Goff, who also represents the interests of Nyck de Vries.

The 27-year-old also gets along well with the rest of the team, in fact from day one. "Pierre had prepared well and received a lot of support from the team. From the first visits to Viry-Châtillon and Enstone, he felt at home and was very happy to see people who believed in him. The relationship with the engineers and the garage was soon very good," said the British manager.

So Gasly is in his place at Alpine, but the results are (too) poor for now. Fairness also dictates that he has not been faultless either. In qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, he crashed into the wall, in Australia he crashed out with Ocon and for the Spanish GP he received a grid penalty totalling six places for twice impeding other drivers in qualifying.
