Haas F1's Kevin Magnussen was content with his performance in Russia which saw him finish in eighth, as the Dane claimed that there was nothing more he could do than keeping out the Force India's that were behind him.

K-Mag qualified in P5 as best of the rest, but was quickly passed by the zooming Charles Leclerc, who came from P7 and took him by surprise. Esteban Ocon, the man who started behind him, had several attempts to overtake Magnussen, but couldn't get past his aggressive defensive manoeuvres.

The 25-year-old eventually dropped down two places because of the two Red Bull cars coming through, as they started from the back of the field but passed everyone in midfield to take up P5 and P6.

"It was a tough race," Magnussen told F1 Paddock Pass.

"I found myself really defending from the Force India's from basically lap one.

"I think we got all we could, I think Leclerc was way too fast for us.

"Keeping the Force India's behind was the maximum we could do."

It was a good day for Magnussen, who has been confirmed to stay on at Haas for next season along with teammate Romain Grosjean, as he scored points while Renault didn't, meaning he gained on the French team in both championships. He now shares seventh place with Nico Hülkenberg.
