Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton says he won't be a mentor to new McLaren driver Lando Norris, who is making the step up from Formula Two next season...

Norris' step up to McLaren came as a surprise to some people - but the young driver is very highly-rated by the side and they have demonstrated the faith they have in the Brit.

Hamilton, sharing his nationality, was rumoured to be a potential mentor to the F1's newest man.

"I won't give him advice," Lewis revealed to the media in his pre-Singapore press conference. "I don't look at nationality. I don't look at the grid and think it's another Brit or another German."

The world champion also commented on other people's suggestions of a third driver being introduced but instead supported another option.

"I quite like the idea of having more cars and more teams, rather than having three drivers in a team. It'd be a handful!" Hamilton suggested.

Many have thought that Hamilton's mind may be elsewhere from the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix, with the driver traveling a lot to promote his fashion brand, but Hamilton has dismissed the talk.

"It's been a hectic time for me," Hamilton explained. "But from experience I've always been able to arrive and switch into race mode. There's never a moment when I'm not thinking about racing and this championship.

"Collectively as a team, we've done a great job over the past few races - we just want to keep that up. There are still a lot of points still available. Our approach seems to be working."
