Kubica says he may not get his happy ending

Be honest, we all want to see Robert Kubica back in Formula One, right? The Pole was one of the stars of the sport before his crash whilst rallying in the off season in 2011.

The Williams reserve driver has already been on an incredible journey just to get back to where he is, but it is natural that he wants more, he wants a race seat.

And with Lance Stroll seeming likely to move to Force India, and Sergey Sirotkin failing to impress in his debut season, there will certainly be one, if not two seats available in the team for 2019.

However, it may not be that simple. Kubica will be likely competing for the seat with plenty of other drivers, including Esteban Ocon and Stoffel Vandoorne, along with F2 drivers such as Artem Markelov.

Kubica was speaking to Przeglad Sportowy, and said: “What I was trying to achieve was drive a Formula 1 car. Currently, the regulations do not help because there is almost no testing at all.”

“So my priority was to sit behind the wheel, but of course by signing a contract you have to be professional and in case something happens get in the car and do your job.”

“I could get into the car does not automatically mean that I will be able to do all the races. On the one hand, it would be the accomplishment of a dream, but on the other it may not have the happy end that I want.”

Kubica’s obvious talent must be difficult to ignore, but his age could be something that works against him, he will turn 34 before the 2019 season starts.
