Verstappen advised De Vries: 'Don't make it too complicated'

Nyck de Vries is struggling in his first year at AlphaTauri. The Dutchman must improve if he is to finish the season, let alone continue to race for the Faenza-based racing stable in 2024. Max Verstappen was asked about De Vries' situation during a press event in Monaco. Does Verstappen often talk to his compatriot?

Verstappen knows the ropes in Formula 1. The 25-year-old Dutchman now has two world titles to his name, but he too has had difficult moments in the king class of motorsport. As a mentor, the World Championship leader could possibly give advice on how to deal with certain issues. After all, the pressure is no mean feat.

"No," replies Verstappen when asked if he often talks to De Vries. "I mean, there is not much to talk about. For his part, you concentrate on driving. We are all under pressure to perform as well as possible. If you are at the beginning of your career in F1, of course, you want to start well. And if that is not the case, I think trying even harder is not going to work. Just concentrate on the track and try to learn. Try to get better."

De Vries needs World Championship points

Afterwards, Verstappen nevertheless reveals that he did talk to the rookie. "Don't make it too complicated. I told him that. He knows that. And he knows it himself. So he just has to score a good result. I think that will help a lot for him. It just has to click. And that will hopefully happen soon," he concludes.
