Pierre Gasly is looking forward to team up with Max Verstappen at Red Bull next season, as the Frenchman will be replacing the departing Daniel Ricciardo, and he's determined to prove his worth against the Dutchman.

Verstappen already revealed that he and Gasly have known each other for quite some years before F1, which is why the two are both looking forward to sharing a garage together at Red Bull from 2019 onwards. It's not just because of that, though, as the two also want to be competing against each other, as they know they're pretty well-matched. At least, that's what Gasly thinks, as he wants to prove himself on the highest level.

"For my development, it's good to battle against a driver like Max," the Frenchman told Auto-Hebdo.

"Everybody knows that he's one of the best drivers on the grid.

"We're about the same age and it's a bonus we get along well with each other."

Despite being friends, the 22-year-old is not scared to battle against the Dutchman. He'll be giving it his all to beat him, he explains.

"In Formula One, you're only the best if you beat the best drivers.

"I have a lot of respect for Max, but on the track we'll be fighting it out."

Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko doesn't expect Gasly to be on Verstappen's level for at least the first half year. The Frenchman has hit the ground running at Toro Rosso as well though, so who knows how well he'll adapt.
