At the opening race in Bahrain, Williams took an immediate point. The team could not have wished for a better start to the season. Moreover, the car is better than many had expected: Williams is a serious candidate to come out of Q1 every race, and then you just belong to the midfield, with a serious chance of points.

Williams is making strides, that much is clear. Moreover, with James Vowles, someone has come to the team who knows how F1 works more than anyone else and knows how to become successful. It doesn't happen overnight, but Williams is on the right track. Especially on circuits with long straights, the Williams is competitive.

In Baku in the points

Confidence for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix is therefore high. "In Baku, we should be able to finish in the points again," Vowles told Auto, Motor und Sport. "Miami will be more difficult. The track doesn't suit our car that well. But we always approach the races with the same attitude: we always want to score points when the opportunity arises."

Williams is keen to score points often, although its focus is on the long term. "Our goal is still to take a bigger step during the winter. And then another one the following year. Now that we are dealing with the budget cap, that [making such steps] can only be done if you make sacrifices during the season," Vowles concluded.
