Daniel Ricciardo isn't seeking number 1 status at Red Bull

Daniel Ricciardo has denied his contract delay is because of a squabble over who's going to be number one at Red Bull next season. Max Verstappen will be racing for the Austrian team next season, but Ricciardo's contract remains up in the air.

At one point, it looked like the Australian was making a move to McLaren, as well as Mercedes and Ferrari. But now, even he himself admitted it's more and more likely he will remain at Red Bull.

Without pen to paper, questions are being raised over what is causing a delay. The 2018 Monaco Grand Prix winner denies it has anything to do with number one status.

"Not that I don't want that [number 1 status] but I don't need that, it all right," Ricciardo said in an interview on F1i.

"Obviously Max is driving well, but I genuinely think there have been things every weekend since Monaco which have just been a bit of a disruption or a bit of bad luck."

"Like the front wing and all that with Paul Ricard. Just pisses me off."

The pairing have had plenty to discuss throughout the season. This included the crash in Baku and the qualifying order in Austria. But despite all this, Verstappen acknowledges how good his team-mate is.

"He is a great team-mate to have. We have a lot of fun together, but also once we are in the car we are pushing each other to a higher level," Max Verstappen said.
