Lewis Hamilton has re-taken the championship lead from Sebastian Vettel as the Brit dominated in the first French Grand Prix in ten years, with Max Verstappen and Kimi Raikkonen filling out the podium.

The race started in spectacular fashion. Sebastian Vettel, who had a good start, locked up at the very first turn and steered into Valtteri Bottas, who got a puncture. Vettel messed up his front wing, and both drivers needed to come in after just one lap. Vettel got dealt a five-second penalty for his efforts.

What might have helped the pair is the collision that happened behind them only seconds after. Pierre Gasly lost his rear and took down Esteban Ocon with him, meaning that both of the French drivers were already out of their home race in the first lap.

At the front, Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz were the ones that profited most. The former Toro Rosso teammates took P2 and P3 respectively, although Sainz was quickly brought down to P6 as his Renault just wasn't quick enough to keep out the Ferrari's and Red Bull behind him.

After Vettel got a nose job, he shot up the grid, overtaking cars left and right, and suddenly he was in P4, just seventeen laps after the safety car came back in. Great driving from the German. Bottas was struggling more to get through the field, which is probably why he finished all the way down in P7, behind Kevin Magnussen in his Haas.

Then, Sergio Perez retired. An engine failure for the Mexican meant that Force India had no cars making it to the end. A big blow for the Pink Panthers.

Lewis Hamilton cruised to victory with relative ease, as the Brit just kept his foot down and never gave anyone a chance of coming closer. Max Verstappen fought, but Hamilton was simply superior throughout the race, and really, the whole weekend.

Kimi Raikkonen stole third place from Daniel Ricciardo in the final ten laps, as the Aussie's tyres simply looked depleted. He defended very well, but simply couldn't do anything once he got onto the straight and Raikkonen had DRS.

The other Red Bull of Max Verstappen finished in second, a very good result for the Dutchman. He's been on the receiving end of a lot of criticism, but now that he's achieved back-to-back podiums, that will surely die down. A good, clean drive from the 20-year-old. He should be proud.

Charles Leclerc got another point for Sauber, and even though he lost two places compared to his starting position, he still should be proud of this achievement. Any point you get in a Sauber car should feel like a massive victory.

Vettel only got P5, meaning that Lewis Hamilton has not only taken back the championship lead, but he now has a relatively big gap as well with the German.
