From 2023, not three, but six sprint weekends will be held in Formula 1. The FIA itself confirmed this through a statement. Exactly which races will be involved is not yet known.

30 races in total in 2023

It hung around for some time but on Tuesday the FIA confirmed that six sprint races will be on the calendar from 2023. It is not yet known which circuits will host the sprint races, the FIA will announce this at a later date. The sprint races will bring the total number of 2023 races to 30.

FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem reacted happily to the news: "Sprint sessions provide an exciting dynamic to the race weekend format and have proven to be popular over the past two seasons – I am sure that this positive trend will continue and am pleased that the World Motor Sport Council has today given its approval for them to go ahead."

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is also happy about scaling up the number of sprint races. "I am pleased that we can confirm six Sprints will be part of the Championship from 2023 onwards, building on the success of the new format introduced for the first time in 2021."
