Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has explained why Lewis Hamilton still hasn't penned an extension with the Silver Arrows, saying that it's simply because everyone is too busy to get it out of the way.

Hamilton's contract extension was a formality, both Mercedes and Hamilton himself kept saying for months, but we're in the final week of May now and still waiting for white smoke coming out of the Mercedes paddock. Toto Wolff explains.

"It's a funny situation we're in, as the talks have been going on for a while now.

"We come together, figure out a few things and move on with our daily routines.

"We [move on] with the team, Lewis [moves on] with his preparations for the next race.

"That kind of shows the trust we have in each other and that neither of us pressures the other to make something clear.

"I don't see a reason why it should be that way."

Hamilton is one of many who is on an expiring deal. Others include his teammate Valtteri Bottas, Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari and Daniel Ricciardo at Red Bull. Both of the Finns are happy at their respective teams, but both of them are rumoured to get replaced. In Ricciardo's case, he's been open about reviewing his options after this year is done, which means he could be the one taking the seats of either Bottas or Raikkonen.
