Gasly denies Alpine talks, Ocon would not block arrival of compatriot

Pierre Gasly has again been linked with a switch to Alpine. The French formation is still looking for a teammate for Esteban Ocon in 2023. Fernando Alonso surprisingly decided to quit and Alpine has to look for a replacement. Gasly has since responded to the rumours himself.

It is not for the first time that Gasly is mentioned at Otmar Szafnauer's team. Alpine is of course from France and bringing in a competitive French driver is good for the brand. The problem, however, is that AlphaTauri has already confirmed that Gasly will race for them next season. All contracts are already signed.

That is also what Gasly points out in a reaction to the reports to Autosport. com . The 26-year old driver says there is not really anything to respond to now. He states that he has a contract with his current employer. "“I’ve got a contract and from everything that I know, and everybody knows, we've announced me to AlphaTauri, driving for AlphaTauri next year." he said.

What does Ocon want?

Ocon himself does have a preference for a new teammate in 2023. This weekend, the current world championship number eight expressed that he would like to see Mick Schumacher get the chance at Alpine.

Ocon and Gasly are of the same generation and have often competed against each other on track in the past. At the time they did not see eye to eye, but should the two countrymen become teammates, Ocon does not expect any rumours. He told the aforementioned medium that there is mutual respect and that the relationship is fine.
