Damon Hill believes Ferrari have become lackadaisical after not being involved in the title fight in recent seasons. The team is no longer used to being the fight, while Red Bull Racing is. Max Verstappen's team is making good use of it.

It has been years since Ferrari was a real title contender. The team has the pace to take the fight to Red Bull, but the Italians are still making too many strategy mistakes. Also, the reliability problems of the Ferrari engine have not yet been solved.

In France, Charles Leclerc crashed out because of his own mistake, while Carlos Sainz finished on P5 after a poor strategy. Hill believes the team is no longer used to fighting for the title.

Difference between Red Bull and Ferrari

"They weren’t terribly competitive and they kind of maybe got a bit lackadaisical in their race team mindset. Obviously all these teams are incredibly professional, but it just seems to me Red Bull seem to be able to think quickly and take opportunities", Hill tells Sky Sports.

The former Formula One driver adds: "I think they definitely need to take a look at themselves and say ‘well, what are we doing wrong? We’ve got the car to do it, we’ve got the drivers to do it." At Paul Ricard, Sainz received a radio message from his team during his fight with Sergio Perez for P3 to come in for new tyres, despite previously asking for this himself. However, the request was refused by Ferrari. According to Hill, it is unacceptable for a team to change its mind at the last minute, especially during a fight on track.
