The Imola Grand Prix will remain on the Formula 1 calendar at least until 2025. Where the Italian race was a great success in recent years, Gian Carlo Minardi wants to do everything to guarantee this in the coming seasons as well. According to the president of the circuit, the aim to further increase the number of spectators fits in with this, he told Formule1.nl.

The race was known as the San Marino GP from 1981 to 2006. Sixteen years ago, the FIA decided to stop traveling to the circuit annually. However, in 2020, when the FIA was diligently looking for available places to race due to the corona crisis, the GP in Imola returned to the racing calendar.

The past three seasons, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen (twice) were the winners of the GP. The Italian race was so popular that the FIA started talks for a new commitment. In early March it was revealed that both parties had reached an agreement for a new commitment that runs until 2025.

Minardi wants to admit more spectators

Imola is also sought after by spectators. In 2022, for example, the organization sold more than 130,000 tickets over three days. Minardi hopes to renovate the circuit in the coming years and also create more places to receive visitors. However, he does not yet give any clarity on how many spectators the organization wants to allow in the future.
