Carlos Sainz was under pressure from Sergio Perez throughout the Bahrain Grand Prix. A third place seemed to be the maximum for the Ferrari driver for a long time, but he benefited from the retirement of Max Verstappen. So in the first race of the season Sainz immediately grabbed a solid second place.
"First of all, my congratulations to Charles and Ferrari. Ferrari is back, all the way back," Sainz gloated immediately afterward during the podium interview. For Ferrari, a one-two punch was a long time coming. "The hard work is finally paying off. "
Still, the driver from Madrid is not entirely satisfied with his own performance this weekend at the Bahrain International Circuit. "It's been a tough weekend, I'm not going to lie, I didn't have the pace today. I have some homework to do, but I will come back stronger," Sainz explained.
Sainz sees Verstappen fall silent
Sainz was tremendously sharp on the restart and seemed to be taking over the second spot by then. "But Verstappen defended well. However, I then suddenly saw flickering lights at the back of his car and then I knew there would be another chance. It's unfortunate for him, but it is what it is. It's good for Ferrari."
