After a Grand Prix in Austin and Miami, Las Vegas now appears to be on its way to a spot on the Formula One calendar. According to the Sports Business Journal (SBJ), a race could possibly be organised as early as 2023.

Third F1 race in America

Since the arrival of Liberty Media, Formula 1 has been looking for a way to get Americans interested in F1. There is of course a great opportunity for the sport there, but until now F1 never really became popular in America. The new owners of the sport, however, are working hard to make it so.

After Austin appeared on the calendar as the American Grand Prix in 2012, there will be two American races on the F1 calendar in 2022. Miami will make its debut this season as the host of a race weekend on the streets surrounding Hard Rock Stadium. However, sources have informed SBJ that talks with Las Vegas are now well advanced as well.

On to Vegas

This is not the first time that F1 would be heading to Vegas, as races were also held at Caesars Palace in the 1980s. In 1981 and 1982, F1 traveled to this track to race in the iconic city and it could happen again in 2023. The plan now would be to drive down The Strip, where several people from F1 are said to have already been to take a look .

According to SBJ, an announcement of this news would be made as early as the first half of this season, if F1 itself did not want to comment on this yet. 2023 is an option, but there is also talk of prudently aiming for 2024 first.
