Gasly: Red Bull won world title 'by building the team around Verstappen'

Two seasons after his time in Max Verstappen's shadow at Red Bull Racing, Pierre Gasly is now enjoying the role of team leader himself and showing his true potential in a strong Formula One season at AlphaTauri.

Gasly excelled in the 2021 season, particularly as he continues to relentlessly develop himself as a driver. Since his demotion to AlphaTauri, he has blossomed and it has strengthened him in all areas.

Red Bull is built around Verstappen

The Frenchman himself considers last season to be his best yet. He calls the season 'extremely good' in general and thinks he has finally been able to show his potential. He says this in conversation with Motorsport.com.

In his time at Red Bull Racing, he was used to driving in the shadow of Max Verstappen. Gasly notes that the entire team was built around the Dutchman and was therefore in a position to win the championship, a situation he compares to that of Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. Having now been given the role of team principal himself at AlphaTauri, Gasly realizes all the more how important that role is.
