Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have shared the top two steps of the podium nineteen times already, twelve of those this season. That is almost a record for the two title rivals, as only two duos have scored 1-2 more times in Formula 1, as Motorsport.com out.

Schumacher and Barrichello record

The record for the highest number of 1-2 finishes by two drivers is set in 2005 by Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello. The two Ferrari drivers are on top of the podium together for the twentieth time during the American Grand Prix. A record that has stood for sixteen years.

In 2016 another duo managed to equal this record. In the last Grand Prix of the season, in Abu Dhabi, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg will also be on the top two steps of the podium together for the twentieth time. The drivers will then be teammates with Mercedes.

Hamilton and Verstappen set for record?

With two races to go and both Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in top form, the record could well be broken this season. Should the two title rivals score 1-2 again in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi, the pair would reach a total of twenty-one 1-2 finishes. However, should they fail to do so this season, there seems every chance that the record will be broken sometime in the coming seasons.
