The Brazilian Grand Prix weekend is underway but the action has been temporarily delayed due to weather conditions which have affected the track's surface.
While Saturday has been relatively clear, the track at the Ayrton Senna Autodrome in Goiania, Brazil, appears to be suffering from a unique phenomenon dubbed 'weeping' in which water stored in the clay surface below is leaked back up onto the tarmac.
The conditions caught out lots of riders
in the MotoGP qualifying session earlier today, which saw Fabio Di Giannantonio claim his first pole position since 2022.
Meanwhile there were crashes for both Marquez brothers, Bagnaia, Martin, Acosta and Toprak among others. Even Thai Grand Prix pole-sitter Bezzecchi found the gravel at one point, though like
Marquez managed to recover to a front-row spot.
To make matters worse, it seems that a sink hole has opened directly beneath the track near the start-finish straight.
MotoGP Sprint Race Delayed
The latest update is that the sprint race has been delayed by an hour and will go ahead at 19:00 GMT, while the Moto2 and Moto3 qualifying sessions will take place afterwards.
The circuit has been pelted with heavy rain in the past week, leading to entire sections of flooding and large amounts of clay thrown up onto the circuit.
Yesterday's practise session was also very wet, with the vast majority of riders choosing to come in halfway through the session.
