After seemingly missing out on a deal with Pedro Acosta to sign for VR46, it seems that the Rossi-owned outfit are keen to sign another notable young talent instead.
Heading into 2027, it seems more than likely that the
VR46 team will extend their deal as a satellite team for Ducati, after it was rumoured that they may switch to Aprilia ahead of the new regulations.
According to Spanish outlet AS, Fermin Aldeguer has been identified as the key target for the VR46 team, and it is rumoured that the deal has already been confirmed.
Speaking at
this weekend's Brazlian Grand Prix, VR46 team manager Pablo Nieto had the following to say about the young Murcian:
"Aldeguer is one of the two riders with the most potential in MotoGP, because of his characteristics, his talent, everything. In his first year, he already won a race, the Indonesian Grand Prix, and he has a very promising future."
The news follows uncertainty surrounding the future of Gresini Racing and their links with
Ducati. Due to delays in an agreement, it appears that the team is set to lose both of its riders as Ducati explore alternative satellite options.
Aldeguer, who is currently the youngest rider on the MotoGP grid at 20 years of age, won his first Grand Prix in his rookie year at the Mandalika Circuit in Indonesia in 2025.
Unfortunately, he was forced to miss the
opening round of the season in Thailand after suffering a broken leg during pre-season training.
Aldeguer cleared for MotoGP return as Brazilian GP rain threat looms
Aldeguer, who is currently the youngest rider on the MotoGP grid, made a name for himself after claiming an unexpected victory at the Indonesian Grand Prix during his rookie campaign last season.
Widely dubed as a future star of the premier-class, Aldeguer faced a major setback early in 2025 after breaking his femur in training, an injury which saw him sidelined and forced to miss out on the opening round in Buriram, Thailand.
The return will be a difficult one for the Gresini man as he tries to get up to speed on a brand-new circuit in Goiania, with
forecasts of rain expected to play a factor throughout the weekend.
